James Charles skewers Logan Paul for Instagram post: ‘This means war’

Katie Mather

When Logan Paul’s 17 million Instagram followers saw his most recent post, they thought nothing of it.

Paul had added a photo gallery congratulating his friend Mike Majlak on the release of his book, “The Fifth Vital.” An ad for the book can be seen in the background of the first picture.

Low on supplies? We’re regularly updating our list of retailers that are still selling household essentials, including toilet paper and hand sanitizer

Unfortunately for Paul, fellow YouTuber James Charles seems to have an eagle eye and excellent memory when it comes to billboards in LA with his face on them.

Charles revealed that what looked like a blank billboard in Paul’s Instagram was actually an edit job to erase a poster for Charles’s new show, “Instant Influencer.”

“Excuse me @LoganPaul I don’t f****ing think so!” Charles tweeted, along with a side-by-side of Paul’s Instagram and a photo Majlak had posted on his Instagram story which included the “Instant Influencer” ad.

“This means war,” Charles added.

Knowing Twitter would not be enough, Charles also went to Paul’s Instagram and commented, “YOU DID NOT BLUR OUT MY BILLBOARD BEHIND HIM OMFG.”

Paul responded with an explanation on his Instagram story, saying he didn’t think Charles would notice and now he feels bad.

Paul then replied to Charles’s tweet with a solution.

But perhaps Charles was coming off harsher and angrier than he actually was. He responded to a fan saying “don’t start a war with Logan” by explaining “we’re friends.”

Twitter tackles 5G Covid-19 conspiracy in the UK with warning prompt

Conspiracy theories have linked 5G with the spread of Covid-19 and has lead to miscreants destroying 5G towers in the UK

Posted by Jhinuk Sen

Twitter said the search prompt would inform users that the government had seen no link between 5G and Covid-19, and include a link to a government website with credible, factual and verified information in relation to 5G.(REUTERS)

Twitter said on Wednesday it would tackle the spread of damaging conspiracy theories linking mobile phone technology with the coronavirus with a prompt to direct people searching for 5G to British government-verified information.

The theory, which has spread on social media, has resulted in attacks on mobile telecoms masts and abuse directed at engineers in Britain. Scientists, phone companies and the government have said it is completely untrue. Twitter said the search prompt would inform users that the government had seen no link between 5G and Covid-19, and include a link to a government website with credible, factual and verified information in relation to 5G.

Katy Minshall, Twitter UK’s head of government, public policy and philanthropy, said the move was the latest step in its focus on connecting people with authoritative information regarding Covid-19.  “Our partnerships throughout this pandemic have allowed us to take proactive steps in bringing people the information most relevant and useful for them,” she said.

Facebook and Google have also taken steps to counter misinformation about Covid-19 on their platforms, however the social media companies have been criticised for not doing enough to counter misinformation. Representatives from all three were questioned by lawmakers last Thursday about the steps they had taken.

The chairman of parliament’s digital and media committee Julian Knight said the position they had adopted was “deeply unhelpful and failed in clarifying what they are doing to tackle the threat posed by record levels of misinformation and disinformation online about Covid-19, some of it deadly.”

Facebook recently removed the official page of British conspiracy theorist David Icke, who has promoted the 5G theory, for violating its policies on harmful misinformation. Google terminated Icke’s YouTube channel for the same reason.

Pinterest Reports 367 Million Monthly Active Users In Q1

BY NINA AGHADJANIAN

This week in social media news, Pinterest reports 367 million monthly active users in Q1, YouTube announces plans to live stream a virtual graduation ceremony with the Obamas and Twitter says it’s testing a tool that lets users self-edit tweets that include harmful language.

Pinterest Reports 32 Million More Users In Q1

Pinterest’s Q1 2020 report shows that the platform’s increased usage during lockdown has led to an added 32 million users since Q4, bringing its total monthly active users (MAU) to 367 million.

Why it matters: Pinterest’s MAU saw a 9.55 percent quarter-on-quarter growth rate, outpacing the same figure at Twitter (9.21 percent), Snapchat (5 percent), Facebook (4.20 percent) and LinkedIn (2.22 percent).

The details: Pinterest reports a 35 percent year over year increase in revenue, at $272 million. Like LinkedIn and Twitter, however, Pinterest says it saw a sharp drop in March due to changes in advertiser behavior. Pinterest notes that video, conversion optimization and shopping ad products drove its ad revenue growth for the quarter. Searches for how to educate and entertain kids, how to clean during quarantine, what food to put in the pantry and how to make masks, have increased significantly, says Pinterest.

Bella Hadid followed then unfollowed Selena Gomez on Instagram

By Layla K. Saleh, Content Editor

We all know The Weeknd and Bella Hadid have had an on-again-off-again relationship for years now. The couple can’t seem to make it work, but hey we’re definitely rooting for them.

Their most famous “off again” phase was in 2017 when Abel dated Selena Gomez. They attended the met together that year and even Coachella.

And the internet lost its mind. What did this mean for Abella? Were Selena and Bella still friends? So many questions and very few answers. That is, until Bella unfollowed Selena off of social media, publicly declaring that they were no longer friends.

The Weeknd and Selena lasted only 10 sweet short months and after that, everyone had their eyes open for an Abella reunion; and reunited they were. And then they broke up again… In all honesty, it’s been a long bumpy ride.

Bella Hadid followed Selena Gomez on Sunday and the internet caused a riot.

So Bella unfollowed her again. Selena still follows Bella on Instagram.

Looks like Bella still isn’t ready to take their friendship to the next level…#Bella Hadid#Selena Gomez#Instagram#Unfollowed#The Weeknd

BY SEREN MORRIS

Adele posted a rare Instagram picture to celebrate her 32nd birthday yesterday, on May 5, and celebrities commented with birthday wishes and compliments.

The singer used the caption to honor the healthcare workers and first responders working during the coronavirus pandemic: “Thank you for the birthday love. I hope you’re all staying safe and sane during this crazy time.

“I’d like to thank all of our first responders and essential workers who are keeping us safe while risking their lives! You are truly our angels [heart emoji] 2020 okay bye thanks x”

In the photo, Adele appears to be looking at somebody off-camera, as she poses behind a huge floral wreath. At the time of writing, Adele’s Instagram post has more than 2.6 million likes.

Fans and celebrities have been commenting on the post wishing Adele a happy birthday and paying her compliments.

Model and television personality Chrissy Teigan had the top comment with more than 64,000 likes at the time of writing, as she said: “I mean are you kidding me”

The Oprah Magazine Instagram account tweeted: “Our birthday gift should be an Adele 2020 album, yes?!” Adele hasn’t released an album since 25 in 2015 but has said that she will release new music in September 2020.

Brazilian YouTuber Hugo Gloss also used the post as an opportunity to ask Adele about her upcoming album: “Honey you can’t just show up like this and say nothing! We need new music!”

Actor Kalen Allen commented: “That waist is snatched!” and posted the same comment on Twitter with Adele’s photo attached. Fans have been remarking on Adele’s weight loss since she posted photos from a Christmas party in December 2019.

YouTuber and makeup artist James Charles commented: “YOU LOOK AMAZING” while Actor and Instagram personality Rickey Thompson said: “That’s my girl” with a heart-eyes emoji.

Lil Nas X commented: “why you won” with a heart-eyes emoji and actress Jameela Jamil simply commented with multiple heart emojis.

Singer Leroy Sanchez predicted the attention Adele’s post would garner and commented: “And the internet breaks in 3… 2… 1…”

Actress Rita Wilson said: “Happy birthday, Adele. Sending you so much love! Looking gorgeous!” and television personality Olivia Pierson said: “Stunning! Happy birthday gorgeous”

Fashion designers Riccardo Tisci and Virgil Abloh both wished Adele a happy birthday, with Tisci commenting and: “Happy birthday beautiful” and Abloh commenting balloon emojis.

Fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Adele’s new look, with Twitter user @popcrayye13 posting four photos of the singer and writing: “Adele may have lost weight but she has always been gorgeous.”

Twitter user @jxeker said: “The thing that has me shook the most about Adele’s new image isn’t even the weight [I don’t care] about that, it’s the hair and the outfits, she went from ‘take me to church’ to ‘take me for drinks’ and I’m here for it.”

Fans have been eagerly awaiting a new album and in February, Adele reportedly told friends that the album would be released in September 2020.

But during an Instagram Live last month, Adele commented, “Come on, it’s 2020—we ain’t meant to get what we want!” and while the singer was referring to technical difficulties, fans are worried this means her album could be postponed.

Adele released her last album, 25, in 2015. It sold 22 million copies worldwide and won Grammys for Album of the Year and Record and Song of the Year for “Hello” in 2016.

Here’s how you can disconnect contact syncing and remove contact list on Instagram

In case your are struggling with discontinuing your contact list syncing on Instagram, then you have come to the right place for the solution.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Instagram is built with the aim to ease the user’s connectivity and communication.
  • You can connect with people on Instagram by syncing your account with your contact list.
  • In case you want to disconnect the syncing of contact list, then Instagram removes all the previously synced contact info.

Instagram has become one of those few social networking services that we don’t just use for photo or video sharing or posting. The app or the browser is helping us sustain our everyday communication, connectivity and creative needs. Now you must be wondering ‘how does Instagram suffice our creative needs?’

Instagram comes with so many in-built filters and effects for our pictures and videos. We can play along with our posts and stories by adding GIFs, stickers or trending hashtags. And all of this not only helps us get creative but also helps us find new people who share a similar interest like ours. For example, if you follow a particular hashtag on Instagram, you can view every person who has posted a picture with that hashtag and if you want, you can even follow them. These hashtags and stickers could also help stay updated about the activities of your current followers. For example, Instagram recently launched a stay-at-home sticker and then it created a different story for all the people in your following list that used this sticker. You could easily view all the stories as all of them were put together; so you didn’t have to indulge in the task of viewing each profile differently.

There are plenty of ways Instagram connects you with people; you can send them follower requests using mutual followers, you can search for their username and if your Instagram is synced with Facebook, then you can also follow the same people that you have friended on Facebook on Instagram. One another way to stay in touch with your friends and colleagues is by linking your Instagram account with your contact’s list. You can find your friends on Instagram if they have registered their mobile numbers with their Instagram handles. However, there are times when you no more want to keep your contacts synced with your Instagram. In that case, you can discontinue contact syncing and remove your contact list from InstagramHow to disconnect contact syncing and remove contact list on InstagramSTEP 1Visit your profile and tap the three-parallel lined icon on the top right hand cornerSTEP 2Click on Settings > Account > Contact SyncingSTEP 3Click on Connect Contacts and then tap Disconnect

The Obamas will headline YouTube’s graduation ceremony

Igor Bonifacic

michelle and barack obama

It turns out students who are graduating this year will have some options when it comes to their choice of a virtual ceremony. Following Facebook, YouTube announced today it plans to host an online graduation ceremony to honor the class of 2020 as they’re forced to stay home due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Dubbed “Dear Class of 2020,” the event will kick off on June 6th at 3PM ET, with a commencement address delivered by former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. Google CEO Sundar Pichai will also make an appearance, as will musicians like Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys and Kelly Rowland. As you might have guessed from the festival-like lineup, they’ll be musical performances in between speeches. And at the end, K-pop group BTS will host a virtual after-party.

YouTube will air the entire multi-hour event on its Originals channel, as well as its Learn@Home website. The company plans to share the day’s full schedule on May 17th.

It’s not a surprise to see Michelle Obama as one of the event’s commencement speakers. The former First Lady is no stranger to working with YouTube. In March, she was one of the stars of the company’s new Creators for Change series. As with Facebook’s virtual graduation, most students would probably prefer to see their friends in person one last time before the end of the school year. That said, it’s not every day someone like the former of the President of the United States delivers your commencement address.
