A Black Broadway star is sharing his pride after purchasing a home built by slaves.
“I wish I could’ve told my ancestors when they were breaking their backs in 1820 to build this house that 200 years later a free gay black man was going to own it and fill it with love and find a way to say their name even when 200 years later they still thought I would be ‘off the table,'” Robert Hartwell wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of himself in front of the home. “We are building our own tables.”
Hartwell is the founder of The Broadway Collective, a training program for young artists. His LinkedIn profile describes him as the “only African American CEO in the professional musical theatre education space in [New York City].
Hartwell wrote that he saw his new home less than a month ago online and reached out to the seller who told him it was a cash-only offer. The seller, according to Hartwell, then told him, “I’m sure that takes you off the table”.
Hartwell told his Instagram followers, “Don’t you ever underestimate a hard working black man.
“I saw the house last week and when I walked in I knew I was home,” he said. “The house was built in 1820 for the Russell family who owned the cotton mill in town. Slavery was still legal.”
“When the agent asked me why I wanted such a large house I said it was ‘a generational move,'” added Hartwell. “I know this house is bigger than me.”
Hartwell ended his Instagram post by writing, “I’ve never been prouder to be a black man. Come to my White House any time. I can’t wait to have you! Glory to God in the highest. I’m a homeowner.”
Hartwell’s emotional announcement came as the nation both celebrates Pride month and is facing a cultural reckoning amid protests against racism across the country.
His post was met with comments congratulating his accomplishment.
“CONGRATS!! The ancestors are dancing,” wrote one follower.
“I cannot wait to see where this story goes!,” wrote another. “Right now it’s exactly the type of transition we need to get away from the darkness of the last and into the light of the future. Congratulations and thank you for taking this on.”
“This fills me with so much joy, tears in my eyes to read your words, to feel your pride. Love you, friend,” commented Hartwell’s fellow Broadway star Kelli O’Hara.
Earlier this week, Instagram golfer and influencer Paige Spiranac shared a story about an unfortunate event that happened back in her college days.
In Monday’s episode of her “Playing A Round” podcast, Spiranac opened up about the time she got a black eye from her roommate. She admitted she’s not much of a fighter and the “fight” only lasted one punch.
“I am not a violent person,” the 27-year-old said via the New York Post. “We’ll loosely use that term fight because I did not participate in it, I just got completely destroyed by one punch.”
Spiranac told the story of when she tried to help her roommate, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound softball player, after night out drinking. “I get her in the car and she was totally fine. We drive back, and all of a sudden, we park right in front of our house … and she like passed out, I have to get her from the car, up a small flight of stairs, into her room and change her,” Spiranac said.
“All the sudden I come back out and I go to lift her up, and she just sprints straight into her room and shuts the door. And again, she’s blacked out, she has no idea what’s going on,” she continued.
That’s when things went South. The Instagram influencer tried to open the door to her roommate’s room and it did not go well.
Here’s the result of that action.
“I’m like, ‘Open the door, open the door,’ and she thought I was one of her ex-boyfriends, and so she opens the door and decks me as hard as she possibly could,” Spiranac claimed. “I woke up the next day with a massive black eye.”
She rocked the black eye to class and then practice afterwards.
Demi Lovato is one of the most easily recognizable TV & Movie actresses of this generation. Her time on Disney Channel, and in movies like the famous “Camp Rock” collection propelled this 27-year-old singer/actress into international stardom.
Although Lovato’s career appeared to have no limit, Demi has come forward recently detailing how she has actually battled with depression for some time. While on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” with “The Voice” judge herself, the “Heart Attack” singer shared how Kelly inspired her to be more transparent about her inner demons.

The “Sober” singer continued talking about how Clarkson had been a massive influence for her and idolized her from a young age:
“I looked at you as my idol growing up. You are fearless and courageous and real as f–k, you know? I love that about you. When I was younger I always thought to myself, ‘If I make it, I want to be like her because she’s real and she’s genuine.'”
This is also a profound revelation because it comes after Demi had experienced a dark period in her life due to drug usage.

This is also a profound revelation because it comes after Demi had experienced a dark period in her life due to drug usage.
Since her initial revelation about her drug addiction in 2012, she overdosed in 2018 and claimed it was directly related to her struggles with bulimia and abandonment issues with her biological father.
Furthermore, it wasn’t until March of this year that Demi revealed that she had started a new romantic relationship with Netflix actor Max Ehrich. One that continues to develop positively. A pleasant surprise for most since her past two relationships ended negatively.

Demi has had nothing but incredibly loving things to say about Ehrich on social media. In fact, she just posted a fantastic post with romantic pictures and a long caption sharing how much she appreciates him being in her life:ADVERTISEMENT
“Being with you makes life SO MUCH FUN ?? We literally act like hooligans on the daily and don’t give a F**K if we’re embarrassing ourselves if others are around!!”
Fans immediately took to this super romantic post and shared how they want to see them together! Many say she “deserves” to be with someone who loves her.

Oh it gets better, Demi went on to pour out her head over heels emotions for Max in one of the most transparent and loving statements she’s ever written about someone special in her life:
“I feel unconditionally loved and accepted by you in a way that I’ve never felt before.. I can’t explain it or you.. you’re indescribable, you beautiful, man. Inside and out you are jaw-droppingly gorgeous..You’re also such a positive lil beam of light in my life and I can’t wait to make more birthday memories together.. here’s to the future baby. I love you @maxehrich ????”

Having personally experienced an eating disorder at an early age, Jameela Jamil now uses her platform to educate others about the media’s impact on body image. Because so many celebs promote weight loss products and edit their pictures on Instagram to make them appear thinner, Jamil recommends fans to avoid stars who make them question their self esteem. Through the years, she’s constantly called out the Kardashians for their controversial social media posts, and, after seeing Kim Kardashian’s latest video, she asked fans to unfollow her for their own health. Jameela Jamil’s Instagram about Kim Kardashian’s corset video brings awareness to so many important issues.
On June 23, Kardashian had fans talking when she posted a throwback video of herself wearing a super tight corset that looked similar to the one she wore to the 2019 Met Gala. Fans remarked how the corset looked “painful” and questioned if Kardashian “could breathe” in it. Because Jamil is a well-known body positive activist, fans messaged her wondering what her thoughts were about the clip.
“I’ve received over 1000 DMs asking me to address this. The reason I didn’t jump on it immediately isn’t because I don’t think the post was damaging and disappointing. I do. It’s because the fact that you’re all messaging me about it, shows my work is done,” Jamil wrote on IG.
The star has called out Kardashian several times for sharing posts that could potentially influence fans’ view of their own bodies, but Jamil made it clear she isn’t trying to “cancel” Kardashian. She just wants fans to be aware of the images they see on social media every day.
“If YOU know that it’s problematic, reductive and irresponsible for her to perpetuate such a heavily impossible beauty standard to her impressionable fans… then you’re empowered and conscious and don’t need me,” Jamil continued. “I’m not sure she realizes that she’s doing to others what her idols did to her, in making her think a tiny waist is the key to femininity and sex appeal.”
Jamil ended her post by asking fans to unfollow Kardashian if they need to.
“The smart thing to do is to protect YOURSELF. YOU have the power. YOU control every Market. YOU choose what and who is trendy. Unfollow the people who tell you things that hurt your self esteem. Don’t let the debris of their damage spill out onto you. Unfollow people/brands that don’t make you feel powerful and happy and grateful for what you have,” she said.

Lifestyle and parenting blogger Myka Stauffer has broken her silence following the controversial placement of her adopted son Huxley in a new home.
The YouTuber, who shares four biological children with husband James Stauffer, posted a lengthy statement on her Instagram on Wednesday, apologizing for the scandal. The Stauffers decided to give up Huxley, the four-year-old boy they adopted from China, after he was diagnosed with autism.
“This decision has caused so many people heartbreak, and I’m sorry for letting down so many women that looked up to me as a mother,” the 32-year-old wrote. “I’m sorry for the confusion, and pain I have caused, and I am sorry for not being able to tell more of my story from the beginning.
“I could have never anticipated the incidents which occurred on a private level to ever have happened, and I was trying my best to navigate the hardest thing I have ever been through,” she continued, adding that she was “naive” about the process of adoption.
“I can’t say I wish this never happened because I’m still so glad Huxley is here and getting all of the help he needs,” Myka continued. “I also know that even though he is happier in his new home and doing better that he still experienced trauma and I’m sorry, no adoptee deserves any more trauma.
“I wanted to help so bad I was willing to bring home any child that needed me,” Stauffer said. “For this, I was naive, foolish and arrogant.”
She also addressed accusations that she adopted Huxley to make more money through her YouTube channel.
“While we did receive a small portion of money from videos featuring Huxley and his journey, every penny and much more went back into his care,” she said. “Getting Huxley the care and services he needed was very expensive, and we made sure he got every service and resource we could possibly find.”
She confirmed that her family is not under any investigation by the authorities.
“We love Huxley and know that this was the right decision for him and his future,” she concluded. “Praying that Huxley only has the best future in the entire world.”
The Stauffers first announced they’d be giving up Huxley last month due to the child having “a lot of special needs that we weren’t aware of and that we were not told.”
They appeared in a tearful, since-deleted video posted on her YouTube page on Tuesday in which they announced that their “journey” with Huxley had come to an end.
That journey started in 2016 and helped them build — and monetize — a channel with more than 700,000 followers, many of whom were outraged by the announcement.
“I didn’t adopt a little boy to share these things publicly,” Myka Stauffer said in the new video, which has been watched more than 687,000 times to date.
It’s also one of more than two dozen videos about Huxley on her channel.
The couple said Huxley has been moved to a new “forever family” and alluded to “issues” and “special needs” that led to their decision. They refused to go into detail on those issues, citing the boy’s privacy.
Stauffer says she stopped featuring Huxley in her videos while the process took place, and she only shared an update on his status after it had been resolved.
“Do I feel like a failure as a mom? Like, 500 per cent,” she said.
Stauffer has spent the last three-plus years building a profile as a mommy blogger and media personality, but her experiences with Huxley helped catapult her to her current fame.
