Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez let black leaders take over their Instagram accounts

Alexander Kacala,TODAY

Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga, who have a combined Instagram following of 200 million, announced they’ll be handing over their social media accounts to influential leaders and organizations to help amplify black voices and causes. This comes amid calls for social justice and support for the Black Lives Matter movement after the death of George Floyd, who was killed by a former Minneapolis police officer.

“Starting tomorrow, I’m giving over my Instagram account to each of the organizations I’ve recently donated to, in an effort to amplify their important voices,” Gaga wrote on Friday. “And after I vow to regularly, in perpetuity, across all of my social media platforms, post stories, content, and otherwise lift up the voices of the countless inspiring members and groups within the Black community.”

So far Gaga has featured leaders from the organization Community Justice Action Fund, a nonprofit working to end gun violence in communities of color.

Gomez, who became the most followed celebrity on Instagram in 2016, said she had been “struggling to know the right things to say to get the word out about this important moment in history.

“After thinking about how best to use my social media, I decided that we all need to hear more from Black voices,” she said. “Over the next few days I will be highlighting influential leaders and giving them a chance to take over my Instagram so that they can speak directly to all of us. We all have an obligation to do better and we can start by listening with an open heart and mind.”

On Friday, Gomez featured Alicia Garza, a co-creator of Black Lives Matter, as well as a podcaster and creator of Black Future Labs, a group working to “make Black communities powerful in politics.”

Garza posted a video to Gomez’s feed, where she articulated the importance of police taking accountability after the killings of black people.

“People are in the streets right now because black people are being murdered by police and police are not being held accountable,” she said to Gomez’s 179 million followers. “This is a big, big problem. Everybody is taught that if you do something wrong, you have to make it right. And when it comes to black folks and police, there is a dynamic where black people are being murdered — sometimes on camera, sometimes not — by police and police are not having to make it right.”

Selena Gomez will have black leaders take over her Instagram as she ‘struggles to say the right thing’

Ekin Karasin

Selena Gomez has announced that she will have influential black ‘leaders’ take over her Instagram. The 27-year-old admitted she ‘struggles’ to say the ‘right thing’ amid the Black Lives Matter protests in the wake of George Floyd’s death. She believes her 178million followers would benefit more from listening to ‘black voices’. The singer wrote: ‘I have been struggling to know the right things to say to get the word out about this important moment in history.

‘After thinking about how best to use my social media, I decided that we all need to hear more from Black voices. ‘Over the next few days I will be highlighting influential leaders and giving them a chance to take over my Instagram so that they can speak directly to all of us.’

Selena concluded: ‘We all have an obligation to do better and we can start by listening with an open heart and mind.’ Last week, the Lose You To Love Me singer declared that she can’t ‘sit in silence’ after hearing about George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis. George, 46, died after white cop Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for eight minutes despite his insistence that he ‘couldn’t breathe’. Selena wrote: ‘I have spent the last 24 hours just trying to process this all. Nothing anyone says can take back what has happened. But we can and must all make sure to take action. ‘Too many black lives have been taken from us for far too long. They deserve better. They deserve to be heard.’

Selena continued: ‘We all need to do better and not sit in silence as this injustice continues. #blacklivesmatter #justiceforgeorgefloyd #icantbreathe.’ The former Disney star joins a slew of celebrities demanding justice in the wake of George’s death. Riots have broken out across the US and UK, with protesters calling for an end to racism and police brutality.

Only here, how the mother of Stormi she managed to win over de followers than Selena Gomez ? All the more that this week, she has soiled her reputation after having “lied” on his wealth. Forbes magazine has removed its title as the youngest billionaire.

As if the lineup for YouTube’s virtual graduation ceremony weren’t already star-studded enough, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez and more entertainment icons will now join headliners Barack and Michelle Obama in celebrating the class of 2020.

Among the other celebrities set for YouTube’s “Dear Class of 2020” livestream next month are Lizzo, Janelle Monáe, Bill and Melinda Gates, Lana Condor, Yara Shahidi, Demi Lovato, Camila Cabello, Hasan Minhaj, Andy Cohen, Billy Porter, Megan Thee Stallion and many more.

The event schedule boasts a variety of festivities, featuring commencement speeches from the Obamas; performances by BTS, Cabello, Chloe X Halle, Lizzo, Maluma, CNCO, Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion; and an “inspirational message” from none other than Queen Bey.

Previously announced participants include Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Kerry Washington, Malala Yousafzai and Zendaya.

YouTube is one of several platforms enlisting top talent for virtual commencement ceremonies after the coronavirus crisis canceled graduations around the world. On Saturday, former President Barack Obama delivered a pair of powerful speeches to both graduates of high schools and historically black colleges and universities in his first major public addresses since the coronavirus outbreak.

A day earlier, Oprah Winfrey headlined Facebook and Instagram’s #Graduation2020 event featuring Miley Cyrus, Awkwafina, Kristen Bell, Mindy Kaling, Selena Gomez, Sterling K. Brown, Hugh Jackman and more. In her closing speech, Winfrey dubbed 2020 graduates “the chosen class.”

Selena Gomez Gave Some Excellent Advice To Grads From Quarantine For Facebook’s #Graduation2020 Event

Selena Gomez was one of many celebrities today to send a personal message to class of 2020 graduates for Facebook and Instagram’s big #Graduation2020 event this afternoon. The singer offered some honest advice to students and empathized with many people’s disappointment that because of the coronavirus pandemic and the need to social distance, most graduation ceremonies worldwide aren’t happening as they normally do. Schools are closed; students are remote learning; and prom and graduation ceremonies are only happening virtually if at all.

Gomez quoted #Graduation2020’s commencement speaker Oprah Winfrey in her speech and urged viewers to keep persevering. She said:

“When people ask me if there’s something that I would tell my younger self, I always said, ‘Go ahead and do it.’ You all have worked incredibly hard to get to this point, and I know it’s not exactly how you’d imagine your graduations would look like, but I want to say it’s okay not to know what you want to do with the rest of your life. It’s a journey to find your direction or your passion so don’t get frustrated by the mistakes and setbacks, as they happen to all of us. The amazing Oprah, like she said, ‘you don’t become what you want, you become what you believe,’ and I think that really resonates as if you don’t believe in yourself, don’t expect others to believe in your abilities. Hopefully, you know, when large gatherings are allowed, everybody can get together and celebrate the important achievement but until then stay safe, stay connected with your friends and your loved ones, and congratulations for this milestone!”

By Layla K. Saleh, Content Editor

We all know The Weeknd and Bella Hadid have had an on-again-off-again relationship for years now. The couple can’t seem to make it work, but hey we’re definitely rooting for them.

Their most famous “off again” phase was in 2017 when Abel dated Selena Gomez. They attended the met together that year and even Coachella.

And the internet lost its mind. What did this mean for Abella? Were Selena and Bella still friends? So many questions and very few answers. That is, until Bella unfollowed Selena off of social media, publicly declaring that they were no longer friends.

The Weeknd and Selena lasted only 10 sweet short months and after that, everyone had their eyes open for an Abella reunion; and reunited they were. And then they broke up again… In all honesty, it’s been a long bumpy ride.

Bella Hadid followed Selena Gomez on Sunday and the internet caused a riot.

So Bella unfollowed her again. Selena still follows Bella on Instagram.

Looks like Bella still isn’t ready to take their friendship to the next level…#Bella Hadid#Selena Gomez#Instagram#Unfollowed#The Weeknd
